Product Review (Giovanni Organic Hair Care)

When I first started out my natural hair journey, I tried out all kinds of products. I was trying to find products that worked for MY hair. I have 4C low porosity hair. I would look at several product reviews before trying a product. However, the product would affect my hair differently than the hair model. This made me utterly frustrated with my hair in the beginning, and I seriously contemplated relaxing it again. Thank God I didn’t. I hung in there instead. I preface my product review by stating this, because I realize that everyone’s hair is different. Therefore, please remember that this is not BIBLE. I am simply sharing my experience with this product. Perhaps, if your hair is like mine, it may experience the same result.

I was really interested in trying the Giovanni product line, because I noticed that many Naturalistas on YouTube were using it and had great reviews. I decided to try it to see how it would work on my hair. I bought the entire line and decided to try it for a month to see how my hair would react to it. Just to clarify, I bought the following products from this line:

  1. Smooth as Silk Deep Moisture Shampoo
  2. Smooth as Silk Deep Moisture Conditioner
  3. Smooth as Silk Protein Hair Infusion
  4. Nutrafix Hair Reconstructor
  5. Direct Leave-in Weightless Moisture Conditioner

I will give my feedback on each product, because there were some that I liked and others that I didn’t.

Smooth as Silk Deep Moisture Shampoo

I did not like this shampoo. The very first time I used it, my hair was extremely crusty or crunchy. I decided to not be too hasty, nevertheless, and continue to give it a try, but my opinion didn’t change. I couldn’t bear to continue to use it on my hair, so I used it as a body wash instead LOL. Smooth as Silk Deep Moisture Conditioner

I did not hate this conditioner. For me, it did not wow nor did it disappoint. I did use the product for the entire month. I don’t mind the product; however, there are conditioners that I prefer more. The product is very watery and light. My hair is course, so I am not sure that the product is a good match to my hair. Smooth as Silk Protein Hair InfusionĀ

I did like this product. I do not believe that my hair is protein sensitive; therefore, my hair responded well to this product. It left my hair feeling soft and strong. You are required to leave the product in your hair for at least 3 minutes. (Product–> Thumbs up)

Nutrafix Hair Reconstructor

I really liked this product. It left my hair feeling very soft. The only downside of the product is that it must be left in the hair for 10 minutes. Therefore, it is not always convenient. However, if you are looking for a product to use everyone in a while to strengthen and fortify your hair, then I recommend it. (Product–> Thumbs Up)

Direct Leave-in Weightless Moisture Conditioner

So this was the product that originally intrigued me to even try the Giovanni line. Naturalistas all over YouTube were raving about this product. I have to say that from the first try I did not like this product. I was extremely underwhelmed with the results it left on my hair. When I applied it felt like wet paper on my hair (yes I know that sounds strange, but that’s the only way I can describe it lol). I gave this product several chances. I even tried using it with my hair steamer to open up my hair cuticles. This product was just not the business for me. (Product–> Thumbs down)

So there you have it- my review for the Giovanni Organic Hair Care line. Perhaps the results had a lot to do with the fact that my hair is think, coarse, 4C low porosity hair. Let me know if any of these products worked for you.
