Hair Chronicles (1)

Hey, my lovelies! So my five year nappiversary is coming up on Friday 17 March, 2017. I am so excited. It’s gonna be epic. I am already making plans for the day. One of the details I can let you in on is that I will be professionally pressing my hair! Because my hair is 4c, it shrinks over 75% of its length. Therefore, in order for me to be able to see the actual length I have to flat iron or press it.

I am so excited to see the length of my hair come March 2017. I have vowed not to add any heat to it (besides my heat cap) until then. What I have decided to do instead is to do protective styling until then. Those of you who know me know this is difficult as I always change my hairstyles. I get bored quickly (lol), and I enjoy “playing in my hair.” This is not a good thing if you are trying to retain length. My plan is, therefore, to maintain protective styles for as long as I can.

My first protective style was this updo:

The challenge then became to maintain the style over a period of time so that I can give my hair a break (leave it alone). So my goal is low manipution and low maintenance (both are recipes for growing hair).

How I maintained it:

I filled my spray bottle with water, leave-in conditioner and curling smoothie. I would lightly spritz my hair as needed and cover it with a satin wrap at night. That’s it!

How long it lasted:

This hair style lasted 7 days. I went to the beach yesterday so that stopped the show. However, I do intend to keep the next style for a bit longer. I am not promising anything. I just take it day by day, because like I said I get bored. I have a tendency to change my hairstyle on impulse. So we shall see.

Here are some of the variations I gave this style :

Hope this inspires you to do your own protective style challenge! Let’s grow our hair together!
